2012 Grade 8 Farewell

GRADE 8 FAREWELL
FAIRHAVEN SCHOOL

Dear Grade 8 Students and Families:

This letter is written to inform you of the final details regarding the Grade 8 Farewell

FAREWELL (Monday, June 25th @ 7:00 p.m.)

Dress - We would like to keep dress fairly casual so that the students can wear the clothes again.  .

Number of Guests - Each student is allowed to invite eight-ten adult guests (usually parents/guardians, grandparents and ect.).    Invitations will be given to the students in the next few weeks.  In some circumstances it may be necessary for more guests to attend the program.  We would like to be sensitive to this; however, we need to ensure that we have adequate space to hold the program and maintain a relaxed atmosphere.  If there are special circumstances please indicate them on the attached information sheet or contact Mr. Catton.  Family, friends, etc. are invited to a reenactment of the Farewell Ceremony, which will take place on Tuesday, June 26th,  at 10:35 a.m.

Class Photograph – Individual photos and a class photograph will be taken by Carman Mose Photography this year.  This is the second time we have used Carman; we chose to do so because the quality of her pictures are very high.  To see some of the pictures from last year check out the following link: http://animoto.com/play/NiAbNTiH1Ih64XiTAC6mxg .

Below is a letter from Carmen Mose Photography:

Session fee of $20.00 per graduate, which will be covered by the grade 8 farewell account, includes all post-processing time of photos, as well as a DVD disc of all your edited and retouched photos for printing at your leisure. My hope would be to meet at an outdoor location.  This provides the opportunity for a fun and creative atmosphere.    For a class of around 16 students we would need one hour to ensure a group photo is included and opportunity for each graduate to get in front of the camera! In case of inclement weather, an indoor location would be arranged.  Please check out my website www.carmansphotography.ca

Farewell Program – The program at the school will begin at 7:00 p.m. sharp on Monday, June 25th.   Guests should arrive early to find their seats and take any pictures.  The ceremony will likely end at approximately 8:00-:30 p.m.  After the ceremony, there will be a dessert/tea put on by the Mr. Johnston’s grade six/seven class in the library.  The dessert/tea will be a place where family and friends can meet and talk for a while.  At about 9:00 p.m., the service will be over.

Yearbook – A personal copy of the yearbook will be available for all members of the Class of 2011/12free of charge. Students will be making the video yearbook using Comic Life.

Farewell Slideshow a copy of the slideshow will be given to each grade 8 student free of charge.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at your earliest convenience at cattonc@spsd.sk.ca .  Thank you in advance for your support of this endeavor.

Dessert Theatre Reminders

Our dessert theater is fast approaching and the students still have a lot to do in order to be ready for the big performance!  On Thursday, May 10th, the students will be doing 2 presentations with one being directly after recess (10:35 am) and the other at 7:30 pm.  Please notice the time change on the evening performance; this had to be done to allow for some of the actors to take part in a very important football game earlier in the evening.
Ticket money is due tomorrow to allow for a seating plan to be made.  Students who do not turn their tickets in by that time run the risk of sitting in the back of the gym or, even worse, not having seating arrangements at all.  There are also a large percentage of students who have not handed in their dessert forms yet.  They were due over a week ago so they need to be in by tomorrow if you have not done so yet.  This is important because if we do not have enough desserts, ice-tea or coffee, other arrangements will have to be made.
Due to a shortage of storage space, please do not bring desserts in before May 10th.  On May 10th, students are able to bring them in either in the morning or at lunch.  If you are bringing in a dessert that needs to be cut, please cut each dessert into approximately 12 pieces.  Coffee and Ice-tea can be brought in anytime.  Don’t worry about plates, glasses or cutlery.
Please remember that the grade 8 after-farewell committee will be selling raffle tickets on gift baskets and 50/50 so try to bring some spare change…who know?  You might win.  Last year, the 50/50 was well over a $100 so it can make a great evening even better!   If you are able to come in early and assist with getting the desserts and refreshments ready, please contact me at cattonc@spsd.sk.ca or 683-7210.  Also, if you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact me
